Life hasn't been kind to Adam Sellars lately...

In the past year he has broken up with his fiancee, barely survived a terrible car wreck, and had his brother's family vanish while he lay unconscious in the hospital. Since then he has been a crippled shell going through the motions of life with nothing but the search for his brother to keep him going.

But Adam is about to discover that things can still take a turn for the worse. Much worse.

His quest for his brother has brushed up against a very dark corner of the world and something has come out of that darkness with an unholy vengeance. He can't fight it, he can't hide from it, and not even the police can protect him as his world descends into chaos.

His only hope lies in a mysterious pair of strangers who have appeared out of nowhere with an offer of aid. But they have their own agenda, and his survival may not be their top priority. Now Adam must keep his wits about him and learn to believe in himself again as events send him on a collision course with a monster more horrific than he ever dreamed possible.

I enjoy creepy, thriller stories, especially where "critters" are involved. I also have had a life-long love and fascination with Spiders. It was then not a difficult decision when I saw the title of this book., and read the synopsis, it was something I would most likely enjoy a good deal. To what extent lay ahead, part of the surprise that gradually opened with the turning of each and every page.

A young family is on a day trip of sorts, out in the countryside. It doesn't take long for these "townies" to get themselves good and lost, and then the young Mother notices a very old and slightly run-down cemetery just back a little way from the road. She had to stop and check it out. As the family get out of the car, the little dog catches a glimpse of something in the distance, and on the other side of the road and takes off in pursuit. Dad chooses to go after the dog while Mother and young son check out the head stones. The family is never seen nor heard from again.

At the same time far away a young man has been seriously injured in an accident and will require months of care before he is released, and even then his mobility is greatly restricted because of damage to his back and legs. While he is in hospital recovering numerous surgeries he learns of the disappearance of his brother, sister-in-law and young nephew. When he is released from hospital he hires a private investigator to go in search of his brother and family, and then his investigator goes missing too. Next thing he knows the police are questioning him about the possible murder of the investigator...........................and so the tale begins.

It would be criminal for me to say any more. This one you just have to read for yourself. It is scary, thrilling, exciting, fascinating and simply one of the very best stories I've ever read. This is a story I can see myself reading again and again, just to look for the tiny little things I may have missed the first time round. I was at the edge of my seat, I was laughing, and once I even had tears. The main characters are so interesting but also likeable, and very well filled out. Especially our "hero," the injured brother. During this adventure he not only learns so much about a people he never knew existed before, but a lot about himself as well.

I strongly recommend this one, and if I could give it 10 stars, I would do so!

Spiderstalk eBook D Nathan Hilliard Reviews

I took a gamble on this book because I'm not a fan of lots of blood, mindless killing, or horror. I've read Stephen King, which this author is compared to, & was concerned because in my opinion Mr King needs a stronger editor his books run longer way after the plot is solved.
Image my surprise to not only be taken in with the first few pages but to find myself start reading on it at Midnight & suddenly find it's 4AM. One of only a few books I have found that good.
The plot driven book is excellent, the characters developed & I liked the authors ability to show people as they are not all good or all bad. I loved the hint of times past before Europeans came to this country as I also believe there was much we could have learned from native Americans. I loved that super human powers are good but come at a price. I found myself wondering would I like Adam take the full treatment if I could be normal again or would I just stay the way I was? The suspenseful mystery had me wondering what the author had in store for me next? I liked especially the fact that I could trust the author not to gross me out or give me nightmares so on I read.
I'm deathly afraid of spiders in Iowa we have Timber spiders some as big as a quarter. Imagine me wishing the author would continue with a sequel not with new characters but showing us the future especially for Billy & Maggie, how do they train the next Matriarch, will Olivia's people see the need to have her be the next Chief, will both tribes reluctantly come into the 20th century?
..."This crazy ***** is unbelievable! It's going to take SWAT to stop her! I swear, she can see and shoot through walls!" ' Utterly phenomenal secondary characters of Native American descent having special powers had me entirely glued to the pages. Tale of giant alien-appearing spiders acting as companions, homicidal Valkyries, telepathic rednecks and a hunt for a rogue Matriarch was as original as they come. Really enjoyed the humor as well which opened with the passage "Meh! Technology makes you weak. I prefer to blaze my own trails" and progressed with examples such as the budding love interest between the protagonist and the niece of the Dog People's Chief in this instance when Adam is caught talking to himself "Congratulations, Adam...you have now reached the stage where even the people trying to kill you are giving you pointers on women." Great dialogue, gore done discreetly, a true adventure in nightmares, really loved this horror book and definitely want to read more from this author!
